Ed William - Writing A Biography That Reads Like Fiction (Ep. 332)

A debut biographer used five days of interviews and a fiction-like, profane style to capture a self-made polymath's escape from poverty into surgery.

• Biography, not fiction: No One's Coming to Save You: The Escape of David Rhoiney (Infinite Books, pre-order now, out Dec 8) is author Ed William's first book, built from five days of interviews with David Rhoiney plus dozens of interviews with people from his life.
• Rhoiney's arc: homeless by age 10-12 (living in a Volkswagen Jetta, shelters, gun violence in Compton/Oakland/Long Beach), a 5'2" kid who grew into a Division I basketball player, then Naval Academy cryptologist, now a vascular surgeon.

Themes, sentiment and reasons are AI-written paraphrases, checked so they never quote an episode. They may contain errors. Not investment advice. Episodes remain the property of their creators.
