• Pre-AI infra pays off: Uber's decade-old systems (Michelangelo ML platform, Jaeger tracing, Cadence workflows, Bazel builds, Slate test routing) let AI agents be bolted on rather than built from scratch.
• Model/harness-agnostic gateways: Uber built a Model Gateway (on Michelangelo, since 2023) and MCP Gateway (April 2025) auto-generating MCP specs from Thrift/Protobuf API registries, now also exposed as CLIs.
